Mandatory First Aid Kit Checklist


Every NEM guide while working should carry these items. Please know what is in your kit and how to use it! We understand the sentiment that first aid kits can be bulky and heavy. However, it is our obligation to our clients and the public to carry the equipment below. If you fail to do so and get caught unprepared, you will be docked pay for the day and be at risk for termination of employment. Clearly, this is VERY important to us and there is no excuse for being unprepared. We have 3 first aid kits fully stocked for your use at the Bunkhouse. If you use something from the kit, be sure to replace it when you return the First Aid Kit.
 

Trauma

  • Medical Examination Gloves
  • Gallon Ziploc bag for Hazardous waste
  • SAM Splint
  • Ace Bandage(s)
  • Knife or Scissors
  • Cravats
  • 4″x4″ Gauze pads and rolled gauze
  • Quikclot
  • Betadine solution for extended trips
  • Irrigation Syringe
  • Tweezers

 

Allergic Reactions

  • Benadryl
  • Epi-Pen: Carried by the person who has the known allergy. Be sure you know where they carry it and how to use it

 

Cardiac

  • Aspirin (make them chew it)
  • Compact CPR mask

*Patients with known cardiac history may carry Nitroglycerin. You can help them with this medication in the event of an emergency. Cardiac patients should not walk out as this puts increased strain on the heart.
 

Dehydration

  • Salt packets (to be mixed into water)
  • Jello Packet (to be mixed into water) Jello packets are excellent for Diabetics who are Hypoglycemic (low blood sugar)
  • Routine water breaks every 1-2 hours

 

Other items to carry for client care and emergency situations

  • Foam Pad (splinting and patient comfort)
  • Trekking Poles (splinting long bones and traction splints for femurs)
  • Moleskin
  • Athletic Tape
  • Writing utensil and Paper for SOAP note – phone apps are available if you have battery life
  • Rain fly + Sleeping bag for Winter alpine programs
